Building a Digital Heart for a Community Non-Profit

Tsholofelo Ya Sechaba Community Centre (TSCC), a dynamic non-profit in Makapanstad, aimed to amplify its community impact but lacked a cohesive digital and marketing strategy. The primary goals were to:
Increase Visibility: Raise the profile of TSCC’s programs (theatre, workshops, youth development) within the local community and with potential partners and funders.
Improve Communication: Create a structured and professional way to share success stories, event announcements, and impact reports with stakeholders.
Establish a Digital Homebase: Develop a central, official website to serve as a credible information hub and point of contact.
Document and Celebrate Impact: Professionally capture and showcase the transformative work being done with youth and creatives.
TSCC operated with immense passion but limited resources. Key challenges included:
No Digital Presence: There was no official website, hindering credibility and discoverability.
Fragmented Communication: Relied on informal channels to share news, missing opportunities to engage a wider audience and document their legacy.
Limited In-House Capacity: The small team lacked dedicated expertise in marketing, design, and web development to execute a professional strategy.
Need for Professionalism: To attract sponsorships and formal partnerships, TSCC needed to present itself with the same level of professionalism as larger organisations.
SunAfri Company, under the leadership of Itumeleng Kgosana, became TSCC’s pro-bono and low-cost marketing, communications, and IT partner. We provided an integrated, full-service solution:
Website Design & Development: We designed and developed the official TSCC website (tscc.sunafri.co.za), creating a central hub for their activities, news, team profiles, and contact information, significantly boosting their credibility and accessibility.
Ongoing Newsletter Production: We took full responsibility for the entire newsletter lifecycle—from conducting interviews, writing articles, and taking photographs to designing, editing, and distributing a series of professional newsletters. This included profiling inspiring figures like Miss Teen 2021 Rezelda Nenzhelele and radio presenter Tebogo Marungwane.
Strategic Branding & Promotional Material Design: We created compelling posters and visual assets for key events, including the anti-drug and GBV play “Dikeledi Tsa Tlhekefetso” and the “June 16 Remembrance” live performances.
Event Documentation & PR Support: We provided photographic coverage of workshops and performances and assisted with promotion and logistics for various events, ensuring their work was captured and shared effectively.
The partnership fundamentally transformed TSCC’s ability to communicate and sustain its mission.
Elevated Brand Authority: The professional website and newsletters positioned TSCC as a leading community arts organisation, leading to increased recognition and trust.
Amplified Reach & Engagement: The structured communication strategy successfully shared TSCC’s stories, leading to features on local radio and greater community participation. As Founder Tsholofelo Pitse noted, Itumeleng’s work was “instrumental in amplifying TSCC’s mission.”
Tangible Social Proof: The testimonials within the newsletters, particularly from former beneficiaries who became facilitators, provided powerful, authentic evidence of TSCC’s impact.
Sustainable Model: TSCC now possesses a reusable framework for communication, empowering them to continue telling their story effectively.
“Itumeleng has played a pivotal role… His ability to merge artistic vision with strategic branding has been instrumental… He is a visionary leader, a reliable collaborator, and a driving force in the creative sector.”
